Life in the Old Neighborhood

This is a picture of the Major's Baseball Team taken in 1946-1947. Pictured in front are Jimmy, Johnny and George Zito. This a one of the teams from Grand and Ogden.
Thanks to Mary Jane (Zito) Smith for the great photo.

This was the good old neighborhood where we had fun, playing ball all week long. Each section of the neighborhood had a club and each club had a baseball team with jerseys, we'd get together weekly to play against each other. I belonged to the Ohio Braves, my brother-in-law, Anthony Travaglio, from Ontario St. belonged to the Ontario's. There were about 10-15 clubs in the area. We'd put $2 each in the pot and the winner of the game got the money. These "clubs" or "gangs" were nothing like what we have today. Our goal was to be friendly, honest and respectful of each other.

The majority of us fought in WW2, this was a very patriotic time. My dream for all of us is to get back to the simpler times, to see an end all the violence and that we love and respect one another as we did back then when values and character mattered. Thank God for the Old Neighborhood.
